Immerse yourself - PlayStation 5

Like Sonic blasting through Starfall Islands, the PS5 races into the future of gaming with its ultra-fast SSD that breaks down gaming barriers for a fluid, dynamic experience.

Sonic Team lead developer Hiroki Tokunaga spoke a little about the development of Sonic Frontiers for PS5 and how the team used the console's hardware to create more freedom that gives Sonic more options to run fast. It's just blue. Maybe. liver

The Sonic team has developed and implemented a new open area texture mapping system that allows players to run through large and varied environments at incredibly high speeds. On PS5, the SSD can support high-speed streaming, which allows us to take full advantage of texture streaming and keep Sonic's speed up.

It was also important for the team to reduce wait times during scene transitions between open space, cyberspace, and other areas so that fans can spend more time exploring and immersing themselves in the game. Most upload processing happens during these transitions, so we're implementing archives, organizing resources, and coordinating everything to maximize file imports and exports. The PS5's fast SSD allowed us to significantly reduce the wait time for smooth transitions between game scenes. "
