No Man’s Sky Fractal Update Brings PS VR2 Support, New Expedition, Starship

In conjunction with the release of PlayStation VR2, we are releasing the first major update to No Man's Sky in 2023. We call it Fractal (version 4.1). Ever since PlayStation told us about their new headset, we knew we wanted to support it from day one, and Fractal brings full PS VR2 support with next-gen immersive controls and visuals.

Our small team has always been very passionate about VR. No Man's Sky is all about exploration, and nothing beats exploring an endless world in virtual reality. Our games have changed a lot since our small team launched VR support in 2019, and we're excited to be back and transforming VR for all players. The release of PS VR2 is the perfect time for this.

Here is a short list of some of the features both old and new players can look forward to when wearing the headset:

Play No Man's Sky in its entirety in uncompromising virtual reality with new levels of immersion.
Using the power of the PlayStation 5, PS VR2 delivers next-generation true VR with reflections, skin texture, draw distance, denser foliage, and better textures and refractions.
Features for PlayStation VR2 include headset vibration, 3D audio and smart tracking technology, haptic feedback and custom triggers for the PS VR2 Sense controller, and more.
Switch between virtual reality and standard gameplay. Continue from your current save to return to your favorite planets, bases and creatures in full virtual reality.
The HUD and UI have been completely redesigned for VR, ensuring that every interaction available in the game feels natural and meaningful. This includes managing the Multi-Tools options in the world through the menus included in Multi-Tools; Explore menus and quick inventory with a personalized display on your wrist.
Raise the cockpit of your spaceship, climb on board and grab the controls to fly. Rotate to get a full 360-degree view of the spacecraft and cockpit in stunning detail only in VR.
Many interactions received VR-only options, including grabbing plants and other collectibles by hand, physically opening the ship and external cockpit, directly targeting the spacecraft with the VR wand/stick, and damaging objects.
With full head and hand tracking, VR interaction makes No Man's Sky more intuitive, tactile and immersive than ever before. Physically remove the Multi-Tool from your shoulder. Intuitively aim and shoot at targets or engage in fisticuffs. Press the button on your headset to activate the Analysis Visor, then hover over animals, plants, and minerals to scan and find them.

However, even if you don't have a PS VR2 headset, the Fractal update will bring a new experience and significant improvements for all players.

Fractal introduces the amazing new spacecraft Utopia Speeder, which allows travelers to glide across the surface of planets at high speeds. We've also launched the new Utopia Campaign, which invites players to join forces and restore an abandoned solar system for the mysterious Utopia Foundation. Other rewards for the expedition include a new exclusive helmet (Dread Mask), a drone, and more.

PlayStation players can now take advantage of DualSense and DualShock 4 motion controls, making it even more convenient to discover and explore new discoveries.

Incidentally, the Catalog of Wonders displays your most unusual finds, from the tallest mountains to the strangest creatures, gives explorers a detailed account of their journey, and allows players to compare their entries with those of their friends.

We also overhauled the game options system, introduced a new set of accessibility features, and gave players more control over how they play and how games play.

2022 has been a very busy year for No Man's Sky, with major free updates like Sentinel, Outlaws, Leviathan, Endurance and Waypoint, as well as many of our featured missions. An even bigger year is set for 2023, starting with Fractal and PS VR2 support.
