In Episode 1 of the original story and Our Last TV adaptation, Eli Boston tasks Joel with getting her out of QZ to safety, but the setup doesn't sit well with either party.
"These two characters clash and are forced together, and you can tell neither of them wants to," said Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog and our last executive producer at HBO. "It's more noticeable in the show than in the game, because we do that in the game."
The two characters come from different worldviews, attitudes towards a post-pandemic world, and different times in their lives, so they are not forced to be happy together. But right from the start there's a clear acknowledgment of the way these characters interact with one another.
"At the beginning of the story, it's Joel's relationship that moves him, what keeps him going. His relationship with his brother, the loss of his daughter... There's very little left in his life, you know, to help him remember that he's a real person or the blows in his chest that make him do it." Pedro Pascal, actor of the HBO series Joel.” Then he meets Ellie, who looks more like him than he is, and [he] captures the essence of his identity and purpose.
"Ellie, who grew up in Boston, Queensland with other children in the FEDRA education system, is just another child and doesn't know what to do with her life," says Ramsey. He seems to have a goal."
And though they don't speak, they are united in a common fear: to be alone in this cruel world.
Ramsey explained, "When we first meet Ellie, Joel doesn't know anything about her and I can see he doesn't know about who she is [sarcasm]. But this is a small front. Her biggest fear is being alone," Ramsey explained. “He feels the same way as Joel, because Ellie believes in someone he trusts and is always there, because he's afraid of being alone one day,” he said.
The pair go from happily running together to fighting each other as father and daughter bond deeply.
"Joel and Ellie symbolize the bond a parent has with their child, a very primal feeling that can transcend many other motives and goals," said Druckmann.
Making that connection is a task the other two actors know well: Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker played Ellie and Joel, respectively, in The Last of You Games, and it's a unique place to see the characters they inhabited a decade ago. . life with the show
"(We were waiting) for Bella to be able to bring this character to the screen because Ellie is like watching a video game character come to life," said Johnson.
"I had one goal while watching the show: to learn something new about Joel," Baker said. "What couldn't I do? Because I felt like I'd gone over this [character] with a fine comb... And Pedro did it in Episode 1, and he'll continue to do it in Episode 9."
Our newest form of gameplay immerses players in their true relationship experience, so players are directly involved in every moment of excitement, and every moment of comfort when they both feel safe and truly love listening. All songs Elie. As Ellie and Joel meet other survivors on their journey, they are determined to never give up on their story.
"When we made [the first game], we gave ourselves this rule, everything is seen from Joel's point of view or Ellie's point of view, and it's all because we want you to spend a lot of time going from one place to another. Druckmann explains: 'It's time And be on it."
A non-interactive version of the story, the show takes an in-depth look at some of the characters involved in Joel and Ellie's journey and considers how important relationships with others are for survival. .
“The show [which only offers Joel and Ellie’s point of view] isn’t going to work. Instead, we got a chance to step away from our main characters and connect with these characters… And now I’ve heard from a few people who watched the whole show and rebooted the game and said that the game is more… Richer. Yes, I look at the stage now,” Druckmann said.
But whatever its form, the history of the past is at its core: the key link between travel and what it is.
"I think both versions of the story are about the same conversation about love," says Druckmann, echoing Johnson and Baker's view that both viewing and playing lead to a deeper understanding of the characters and themes of the story.
It was Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann who got together and said, How do we keep the story intact and bring it to the screen? And they respect the game on a high level,” Johnson said. “He’s a friend in a way, but you’re going to have two different experiences in the event and one different experience in the game.”
"You have a chance to explore the same moments and the same feelings in a different way," Baker said. “Not this or that. Yes/And it is. You gotta do both. Play games and then watch shows or watch shows and then play.”
"It's a unique experience, [but] those who have experienced both will find a richer version of this story ... and play, or enjoy just one version, or want to immerse themselves in The Last of Us again." “Season 1 of the show is now on HBO Max,” said Druckmann. open it.
