In the story of One Piece Odyssey, Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates find themselves in a great storm at sea and their ship sinks on a mysterious island known as Waford. One Piece Odyssey is a new turn-based RPG with new character designs and monsters designed by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda.
At our recent preview event, One Piece Odyssey producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki described the game's soundtrack as "A story of bonds woven through memories." It was also important to the development team to "create an RPG that allows players to explore and adventure in the world of One Piece."
Today, we're excited to share how players can strengthen their gaming bonds and take advantage of each character's unique abilities while immersing themselves in the One Piece world created by Tsuzuki and the rest of the team.
(Pirates beware, minor story spoilers ahead!)
combat system
To begin, we'll cover the game's combat systems and how unbreakable bonds formed in battle are essential to defeating your enemies.
Tsuzuki: "In action games, you have to focus and learn to control a character in every battle, to get that satisfaction. However, as an IP, One Piece already has many charming characters in the 'Straw Hat Team.' We accept battles. as our combat system of choice."
Generally, turn-based RPG players build and lock all characters before their turn. But One Piece Odyssey takes a different approach.
Tsuzuki: "We adapted the rock-paper-scissors element as the main tactic, placing characters randomly in various areas. This allows players to switch between different registered characters, challenging them to use each character's unique abilities and skills take full advantage of. is for.defeat the respective enemies. This system provides different situations for them to encounter each time and provides a new perspective on the battles they will encounter along the way.
In most combat encounters, the Straw Hats will engage enemies in multiple battlefields, with up to four crew members fighting the enemy while the rest stand in reserve. Straw hats can be removed from the eyes and can be changed freely if there is a movement left. Enemy positioning can sometimes be a problem for your formation if support oriented crew members are attacked and surrounded by elite marines. Since you have the ability to switch between characters on your roster, you'll be able to factor combat stance, event type, contact art, and possible secondary objectives into each combat encounter.
event type
Straw Hat staff and enemy NPCs are classified by effectiveness types: strength, speed, and technique. Where strength is most effective against speed-type enemies and least effective against skill-type enemies.
Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat team and a strong type. Despite Luffy's strength, he has more trouble against Tech-type enemies. Straw Hat navigator Nami is fast and strong against skilled enemies. Call on his speed ability and help Luffy when he is in trouble!
With nine Straw Hats against four in close combat, there is plenty for you to experience.
Association arts and memory gardens
Now the crew is really strong because everyone has their own strength. However, this is a connected story, so we encourage all players to unlock the game's full potential with Bond Arts.
Bond Arts are some of the most powerful attacks the Straw Hats can do. As the story begins, the Straw Hat team will dive into a world known as Memoria, a world of memories intertwined with the memories of the Straw Hat team in order to regain their lost powers. To unlock Bond Arts, players must discover these lost side quests known as Memory Links in memories and relive the story of the bonds shared by some of the Straw Hats. After completing these memory links, link arts will be unlocked and straw hats can be used for free throughout the game, provided they have the required link level.
Bond Arts require a certain amount of link level to activate, and the link level can be filled by fighting together. To initiate a Bond Art attack, all Straw Hats participating in the Bond Art on the affected side must have a high enough pass level, and the starting Straw Hat must also have movement.
The sheer power of these attacks is worth seeking out these memory links and playing some straw hats to keep your link levels charged.
Tsuzuki: "Bond Arts is an example of the benefits of using a variety of characters and items, as you will have a stronger attack option to defeat your enemies. So we recommend experimenting with Memory Bonds to build your deck to strengthen.
Dramatic scene
It wouldn't be a piece without some drama. We included this in the game as another way to level up your team.
A dramatic cut system throughout the game will randomly deliver objectives in the heat of battle, offering more experience, money and loot if the objective is achieved. For example, sometimes an enemy must be defeated by a certain Straw Hat; Even if the crew member is weak compared to the incident type. Sometimes this can make the battle difficult, but it's worth it!
More ways to improve your team
Outside of combat, the game still engages players in building friendships.
Tsuzuki: "Throughout your adventure, you will find places to camp and hold a 'Party'. By hosting this 'Party', you will earn extra experience points for the next 10 battles you face."
All the extra loot the Straw Hat Pirates earn by defeating dramatic stage challenges are essential ingredients for cooking, making magic orbs and upgrading equipment. Using the Straw Hats' own strengths, they can create power-ups to take on greater challenges, such as boss battles, and turn those bonuses into items that have a greater impact on the course of battle.
Camping and crafts
As with any great adventure, the Straw Hats will find time to relax, enjoy and be excited while camping. During the camp, the player will have the chance to find the best way to spend their resources by cooking, making trick balls and using the Nico Robins Mystery Craft.
Sanji is the crew's cook and can prepare delicious food to eat in battle. Never forget to order fast food from Sanji's Kitchen before any tough battle because the food is better than any random apple you can find. Look out for Sanji's Bronze Bat Soup as it will heal all allies and also give a 10% bonus to DEF and GUTS.
Usopp, the straw hat sniper, makes trick balls. These trick balls can give huge advantages to the party or huge disadvantages to the enemy. Bosses are powerful in One Piece Odyssey. Like the original Jobs, bosses will test the straw hats and the player must work with Usopp to create trick balls that lower enemy defenses or make them more susceptible to status ailments.
equipment
Straw hat archaeologist Nico Robin is the player's team curator. Each straw hat has a grid, and players can freely fill the grid to upgrade the team by acquiring cubes with different abilities and stats that players will encounter during gameplay. In the later stage of the game, as the story progresses, Nico Robin can become one of the most popular teammates, as he can come along to enhance his effects and give the player free expression. adjustment.
All crew members are truly valued and form an important core of the game and player legacy. Create memories with the Straw Hats through the depth of combat and its strategic elements.
