Team Dimps is no stranger to Dragon Ball games. Series such as the Dragon Ball Xenoverse series, the Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi series, and the Super Dragon All Heroes series have been at the forefront of development. From the fighting game genre to the TCG genre, they understand the power of the Dragon Ball universe in many ways and are now taking on the new challenge of creating an asymmetric multiplayer survival game.
Dragon Ball. Breakers is the new game developed by the Dimps team and it will be released on October 14 for PS4. Before we get started, we want to give Dragon Ball fans and Survival fans a chance to learn more about the wallpaper. Platform development in an exclusive interview with Team Dimps and Bandai Namco Entertainment Producer Ryosuke Hara.
Thanks Dragon Ball. It's an exciting time to join us for our interview with The Breakers. Introduce yourself and your role in the game.
Ryosuke Hara. Hello, I'm Ryosuke Hara, Producer of Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc..
Yoshio Otsuka. I'm glad I got it . I'm Yoshiya Otsuka, a developer at Demps.
We are pleased to have you participate in the interview. Since you've worked on so many Dragon Ball titles, we wanted to ask you what excites you the most about Dragon Ball. While working on The Breakers.
RH : From a broader perspective, the task of developing a Dragon Ball game like never before is in itself exciting. Despite the unprecedented challenges of the project, we can experience a level of excitement that Dragon Ball game developers have not experienced before. On a smaller level, as a Dragon Ball fan, I really like to think about what kind of Raiders and Survivor characters should be added and what skills should be included to make it more interesting. Every time I do that, I realize that the magic of Dragon Ball is mysterious and we still don't fully understand it.
Having over 20 years of experience developing Dragon Ball games is a great story for Dimps. What do you like the most about Dragon Ball? While working on The Breakers.
yo. My concern is that this game breaks the rules of previous Dragon Ball games. Dragon Ball games are usually single-player games or games where players compete in teams of the same number. However, this game is a lopsided action game for one on seven and challenges the genre like never before. Also, instead of controlling main characters like Goku and Vegeta, players control normal people from the Dragon Ball universe like Bulma and Oolong, who weren't playable in previous Dragon Ball games. We hope our customers can enjoy the Dragon Ball world that they couldn't experience in previous Dragon Ball games.
We are happy to ask both of you a few questions to learn more about the development process. First of all, what were some assumptions you had to make when creating an asymmetrical multiplayer survival game where 7 survivors try to escape from a super powerful invader?
RH 's theory is that Dragon Ball's "big difference in strength" is an advantage. There are many asynchronous fighting games in the world today, but I don't think there is a game in the world where the heroes of the same universe have a greater difference in strength than Dragon Ball.
yo. The balance in creating an unbalanced 1-on-7 game was also one of the elements we focused on, which made "a huge difference in the strength of Dragon Ball set." This may seem illogical at first, because we want to achieve a high power differential while still maintaining balance, but if this balance is not achieved, the game will not work. For now, we're doing a pre-launch balance test. As we continue the game after it's started, constantly adjusting the balance as we add new characters always becomes a challenge.
During the game, the survivors can face one of the three invaders: Hive, Frieza or Majin Buu. When the game begins, the attacker begins in its original form and evolves over time. This is a fun and dynamic element that is unique to the survival game genre as it allows the player who is a rider to develop his strategy while playing. It also creates a sense of urgency among survivors. How did your team incorporate the ideas of each outfit into the raiders?
RH : To summarize briefly, let's describe our playing style as follows.
- Cell: "All kinds" with high development speed and stable research capacity
- Frieza: A "type of technology" that primarily uses research skills.
- My Father. The "high-risk and rewarding" genre changes slowly but suddenly picks up survivors in the second half of the game.
Which Draft Rider is your favourite, and why?
RH : I like Frieza better. As best I can, I place Zarbo and Dodoria on the map and position them well enough to take out the two caches, or place them in front of the survivors below to prevent them from being activated by the other survivors. This rider is fun to use because it offers many strategies.
yo. I say mobile. The moment you select a cell and start the game with touch feels like something you can only experience in this game. In a way, the hive is the code for the game, so I hope you become the hive and try to go from the larva to the final shape.
Title: Not Playing.
The creators have such a unique development in the survival game genre that the main objective of the survivors is to escape rather than focus on fighting. What is the reason for this part of the game?
RH: BNE has hosted many Dragon Ball games. Most of these games focus on combat and repetition of the original story. This is the nature of Dragon Ball and its appeal to many, because although I think it's predictable, I think it's really the only attraction of Dragon Ball, and at the same time, it has always been. There was a vague feeling that no. I had the idea that by having special characters like Bulma, the risk of war between super warriors could be stronger, from the point of view of ordinary people rather than strong characters. Oolong has no superpowers and does not participate in wars. Moreover, the “asymmetric fighting” game genre was already popular in the industry and the development of this title started with the idea that the combination of this type of game and asymmetric fighting can create new IP value and new combination.
The Breakers has a game mechanic called Dragon Transformation, where the survivors control the powers of the Z Warriors, but they are usually used to escape rather than fight. It differs slightly from other Dragon Ball games in terms of the focus on combat. How did he get away with designing characters who were basically helpless?
yo. To create the concept of "amazing power squads" that can only be found in Hara-san's Dragon Ball, the "running game" is more appropriate to the idea than previous fighting games. . In addition, the presence of ordinary people like Bulma and Oolong in the Dragon Ball universe will be part of the game, in a way never seen before in a story-based game.
Otherwise, how does this game bring the elements of the Dragon Ball franchise to make it a familiar part of the universe? (Specifically, what are some of the Dragon Ball story elements worth noting and the moments players might look for as they progress through the different games and maps?)
RH : This title differs from previous Dragon Ball games in that it has visual aspects of the original story spread throughout the game. The most obvious examples are Bulma, Walling and Farmer, who have no superpowers. Their features and abilities were not used in previous fighting games, but this title is designed in such a way that they can be used to their full advantage. The evolution of the occupant, the loss of territory, the slaughter of citizens, and other experiences of moving the map as an enemy character are all new and original stories. There are many other elements in the game, such as collecting 7 dragon balls, summoning Shenro and using different abilities, dragon transformations, etc. But I hope you will experience it for yourself when you play.
Finally, it's a good idea to wrap up guys up with some interesting advice. What are some tips for being an invader and benefactor?
RH : We believe the fastest way to defeat survivors is for attackers to use their eyes and ears to find survivors with their unique abilities and movements. The ears are particularly neglected, so we hope you're wearing earplugs and efficiently searching for survivors. It is important to plan in advance what the survivors will do when attacked by flyers. At first, you can try to escape just by running, but of course the raiders will catch up soon, so we want you to customize your escape route by understanding the details of your abilities.
Yo: Survivors will enjoy teaming up with other players to escape, but there are many items players can communicate with each other, such as stamps, emotes, and tokens, so we hope you enjoy the game while using it. elements. We hope you enjoy the game as much as we do. Thieves have unique voices that allow them to tell the lines of Hive and Frieza from the original story at any time. Being able to voice Cell and Freeza in battle situations as in the original story is another way to enjoy the game. These items will be added to the game in the future, so we hope you will continue to enjoy them long after the release.
Thank you so much for taking the time to discuss Dragon Ball in detail. We're gearing up to launch The Breakers on PS4 on October 14, 2022.
