At the end of the light is the darkness. And at the end of darkness there is light. This conflict is at the heart of Lightfall, the latest addition to Destiny 2's epic saga of light and darkness. You and your team of firefighters face off against the Dark Legion Shadow of Witnesses and Callas. Everything turns, all life hangs by a thread. It's the most monumental development in a game in six years, and the talented team at Bungie is making sure you experience the brilliance through the game's story and various new additions.
During a recent preview event for the upcoming expansion, we got our first look at some of the quests and some fun new surprises in store for both new and existing Destiny 2 players. Below are some of the most interesting details we learned about Lightfall.
The beginning of the end of the saga.
You'll Carry the Burden: Lightfall appears to be one of the most powerful and emotionally heavy stories in the Destiny universe. With you as the protagonist (known as the Guardian), a savior fighting towards the end of the world, everything falls on you. Increased focus and pressure on you as the story protagonist drives the plot, giving your actions more weight than in previous expansions.
Introducing The Witness: Destiny 2's nemesis from the Light and Darkness saga, The Witness, finally enters the physical framework and adds to the urgency of Lightfall. This entity is unlike any you have encountered. In her quest for complete control, the Witness will quickly prove to be the coldest, most calculating, and silent enemy a Warden has ever faced.
A beautiful new destination: Lightfall shows the world of Destiny in a new light. The cyberpunk-style city of Neomuna is one of the most visually stunning locations in video game history. The architecture took a more streamlined approach to its design, and the team took that philosophy across the board, incorporating wave-like fins and ship-like elements like sailboats. Everything is complemented by a vibrant neon color scheme to create a vibrant new aesthetic for the Destiny universe.
New Characters Join the Fight - You can't hope to stop the end of the world alone, so you'll find yourself alongside some of Lightfall's newest faces. There's world-weary veteran Rohan and newcomer Nimbus, two members of the Cloud Striders, Neomuna's protectors.
A New Power Rises From Within: Along with the new Lightfall adventure comes a new subclass power. Enter the thread: the cosmic web of life that connects to everything around you. It's a dark thread of life that any class can use extremely effectively to bring variety and innovation to Destiny's fast-paced combat. In the first mission, it is used to quickly move to another location, hijack a vehicle to attack enemies, and attack from a distance.
Swing Like a Can of Spiders: Provides access to a new grappling ability that replaces the thread grenade slot. Not only does it let you roam the world as a certain arachnid-inspired hero, but it also reduces Destiny 2's melee combat. It throws rope hooks in the air and grapples with enemies, stunning them and allowing melee attacks. Tracking body or projectile deflections.
Updated Weapon Crafting: Weapon Crafting gives Rangers the ability to customize their arsenal, and Lightfall gives players a new perspective on weapon development and selection. While fewer weapons will be produced overall, many new weapons will have reliable long-term resources, giving them value from a random utility role. Inefficient weapons can also be upgraded, allowing you to upgrade randomly dropped weapons with similarly designed weapons.
New Challenges - The Witness isn't the only new enemy you'll encounter in Lightfall; Torturers are also ready to face new challenges. The Bungie team created this enemy with the goal of being the most fearsome and fearsome fighter in the Destiny universe. Commanding a giant scythe, the Tormentor harnesses the power of the Void. He puts on a show you won't soon forget.
New classes and new opportunities.
Each Guardian class has new dark forces that use the thread in different and interesting ways. This skill gives you more freedom to express yourself in battle.
- Hunter Threadrunner: Strand allows Hunter to use Silk Strike. This whip-like ability allows them to constantly move and attack together, making the Hunter's combination of mobility and strength appear powerful and formidable.
- Titan Berserker: The Titan Berserker harnesses Strand's much more brutal powers. He weaves a blade of darkness in his hand, allowing for a new melee combo attack and a heavy attack that sends shockwaves of thread energy.
- Warlock Broodweaver : The Warlock controls woven minions called "Threadlings". He also has access to a Super that sends explosive needles at nearby enemies.
Prepare to fight against the odds when Destiny 2: Lightfall launches on February 28th.
